According to BBC reports, Theresa May, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has said she will quit as Conservative leader on 7 June. This will pave the way for a contest to decide a new prime minister.
May said she had done her best to deliver Brexit and it was a matter of “deep regret” that she had been unable to do so. She has made frantic efforts but failed to win MPs’ backing on Brexit.
Theresa May has indicated that she would continue to serve as prime minister until the Conservatives have elected a new leader to take over from her. The party (Conservatives) have said they hope a new leader could be in place by the end of July.
