Seven Soldiers Get 9 Years for Treason

On Monday, 27th May 2019 seven soldiers of the Gambia Armed Forces were handed sentences of 9 years for treason and other charges in Yundum.
These same soldiers were on Friday found guilty by the same court along with one other solider. They were found guilty of plotting to overthrow the current government.
The officers that were sentenced are Cpt. Yahya Jammeh, Lt. Abdoulie Jarju, Lt. Yahya Jammeh, Sgt. Babucarr Sanneh, Sgt. Malick Bojang, Lance Corporal Abba Badjie, Private Mbemba Camara and Private Alieu Sanneh. Private Sanneh has been sentenced to three years.
In 2017 twelve soldiers of the GAF were arrested for allegedly creating a Whatsapp group with the intemtiom of plotting a coup. The other four were found not gulty and let go due to lack of evidence.
