Hon. Alagie Jawara is a young and prolific Gambian lawmaker, who said was motivated into politics with the aim of transforming the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.
In an exclusive interview Elegance granted him at the National Assembly complex in Banjul expressed his delight to Elegance for the one-on-on interview, as he happiness could be notice on his face with glittering of smiles.
Dressed in dark suit with glittering shoe holding one of the expensive mobile phone, said before he became a lawmaker, he was a businessman who goes to China buying varieties of goods, which he imported into the country and reselling in order to gain ends meet.
Born and brought up in Baddibu Kerewan in the North Bank Region, Jawara said anytime he goes on weekends to his village and see how his fellows live in the rural Gambia triggered sadness in him, as he said because the live they were living was painful and pitiful.
Meanwhile, he outlines his major political ambition in the country as to transform the lives and livelihoods of Gambians, as he said to be working a huge project for his region, in which construction of roads, digging of boreholes for clean drinking water and many other humanitarian needs are also included.
“Whenever I go to the my region and see how people there live, I ask myself what can I do to help these people to get of this out difficulty’ I feel so sad, and I ought to change their lives and I pray God help me in that process and make everything smooth for me to contribute to the national development of the country and change the lives of my fellow Gambians,” he said.
Further speaking, Hon. Jawara said one of the first things he did was promote football in this district by giving out football to young people of the district.
This he said is the fastest tool of bringing young people together who comprise larger part of the country’s population.
He finally urged Gambians to be united and participate in the national development of the country, adding that the country inherited a bad governance system but which if Gambians come together as one nation the country will soon develop to the expectation of Gambians.
