History was made on 3 February 2018, when an extraordinary international fashion and lifestyle magazine was re-launched in Banjul to mark the opening of its splendid offices on the boisterous heartland of business and corporate life in The Gambia.
Launched by Wedad Sojka, managing director of Wedad’s boutique, with the ribbon cutting done by Madam Rose Sarr, Elegance magazine is a pro-Africa international lifestyle publication that features businesses and profiles role models who are purely Africans.
In its six years of operation, the magazine has covered wide range of human interest issues and featured renowned personalities in various domains cutting across commerce, entertainment, fashion, health, education, culture, technology, sport, and statesmanship.
“From our exclusive interviews with some of the most influential statesmen in Nigeria and Ghana to the one with the Senegalese First Lady, we celebrate success stories of the people of these three amazing countries,” Elegance Media Group’s CEO Lady Chilel Sarr said in her speech.
The profile of Lady Chilel was read and the magazine reviewed by Ibrahim Rahim Cham. Mr Cham says the magazine’s vision is to be truly African, out to give the world the true values of the African personality in all facets of life.
The magazine is available in Mali, Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria as well as in the Scandinavian countries, the US, Canada and the UK, where it was founded. Just on the eve of the launching (Friday night), Gambia Fashion Awards gave Chilel Sarr and Elegance Magazine an “Eminence Achievement Award” in fashion – a category that was non-contested.
“For the past years, we have been concentrating on marketing and expanding to other parts of Africa. We also began doing some charity works. We run a Travel Agency and a Money Transfer outlet as well,” the Elegance Group CEO said.
“And it has been six years of hard work before setting up an office. In terms of challenges, we still nurture issues with adverts and sustaining the cost of printing and shipment from the UK (where the magazine is printed),” she explained.
The event was graced by friends of Elegance Media Group, dignitaries and family members of the CEO. Effry Mbye accultured the ceremony with Halam music and songs, with a touch of social history.
The newest rap sensation, Big Faa, entertained the crowd with the hit song “Anything” plus the new single, “DefarrKo” (Wolof for ‘fix it’).
