Chinese Embassy officials visit Nusrat Senior Secondary School

Musa Bah
On Tuesday, 28th May, 2019 three officials from the embassy of The People’s Republic of China went to Nusrat Senior Secondary School on a cultural visit. The three officials are Mr. Li, Head of the Political Section, Mr. He Mau, Attaché of the Political Section and Mr Li Changhai, the Third Secretary, Political Section.

The officials were there to discuss with the students of the school and tell them more about China in order to make them have an understanding of the cultural heritage of that country.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Karamo S. Bojang, Principal of Nusrat Senior Secondary School said that the truth is that humanity is one and we are all human beings. But being from different countries and races, we all have our cultural distinctions. He said he was very happy that the Chinese Embassy in Banjul decided to pay a visit to the school.

Mr. Me Mau spoke at length about China, giving detailed information about The People’s Republic of China and saying that the visit was prompted by the fact that China gives a lot of scholarships to Gambian students. He said interviewing these students revealed that most Gambians know very little about China and thus this was a step towards changing that reality.

He said that they observed that majority of the Gambian students who go to China come from Nusrat Senior Secondary School and that is why they chose to visit the school as it is obviously the best school in The Gambia. He said they hoped to impart relevant information about China and learn new things about the Gambia.

As part of the visit, Mr. Li presented many items to the school including learning materials, footballs, rechargeable torchlights, Ramadan gifts and a host of other things.

The Nusrat Peer Health Educators staged a beautiful drama which depicted the struggles of students to get scholarships after high school.

At the end of the programme a student by the name Matty Jobe delivered the vote of thanks.
