Sise Sawaneh and the two Touray Brothers are finally resting

Thousands gathered yesterday at the Imam Malick Mosque at MDI Road Kanifing to pay their last respect to the late Sise Jaha Sawaneh, Muhammed Papa Touray and his cousin Saikou Touray who died in a fatal car accident around Kiang on Wednesday afternoon.

This sad incident happened when the three were on their way to attend a peace and reconciliation meeting with the Serahule community.

Sise Jaha Sawaneh was a well known journalist and an activist who worked in both the print and the electronic media. Her last work place was at the state broadcaster Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).

The Director General of GRTS said after receiving the shocking news that one of his staff died in a car accident, they mobilized themselves and went to console the family of Sise in Kanifing Estate.

Feeling devastated and in a sombre mood, Fatoumata Ceesay a colleague and friend to the late Sise Sawaneh said the late Sise was not just a colleague but a true friend to her who was concern and had interest in her advancement. ” I am really lonely right now, I have been receiving calls here and there from people in and outside the country”. Fatoumata mourned. She added that last time she talked with the late Sise was the planning of her wedding which would have take place in a month time or so.

Among those spotted at Sise’s family house in Kanifing Estate was the former Vice President of The Republic of The Gambia, Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang, CEO of TAF Africa Global, Mustapha Njie and other dignitaries.

She was laid to rest yesterday at the Kanifing Estate Cemetery at 5pm along with Muhammed Papa Touray and Saikou Touray.

The entire media fraternity is in deep mourning. Sise Jaha Sawaneh will be remembered of her joviality, kindness passion she had for the job and hard working as many have described her!

Sleep well Sise🙏🏾 Till we meet again!
